I've been thinking of trying Chess mentor out.  However, I don't want to try something out, like it, and not be able to aford it.  So, before I try it out, I want to know the price.  But I can't find a price tag anywhere.  Could any of you tell me the price?

Subscriptions are $15/month or $150/year.

For a child (I'm 16) it is too much to pay. Perhaps it is something for after I get a job.

Money.....give me your MoNeY! Clownfish has a strong point.  And Lord-Svenstikov is so right. Karl was accurate.

Unfortunately for the makers of this site, money does not grow on trees, and great websites like chess.com cost quite a bit to keep running.  Chessmentor subscriptions are a great way to raise money for the site, and the money from that keeps the site relatively cost-free.  The ads are tasteful and out of the way, and if that and priced subscriptions to Chessmentor is all that is required to keep this site on the up and up, I am happy as a lark.

I don't think that's too much money.  Infact, I think that's a great price seeing that the rest of this site is free.

However, on thing that bugs me is that you have to subscribe, as aposed to paying for lesones.  Similar to the old chess mentor.  I'd rather download the software, and pay, $1-5 per lesson, then you can go through the lessones you bought. It would no longer cost you money on you're server (after you've downloaded the lesson)  I would like this style more becouse then I can go through the lessons when I feel like it, and not feel rushed to get my full years worth of lessons in.

i agree. most people dont know that

I have to agree, the price it too much, there are hundreds if not thousands of resources that are available for free or almost free.

The product had its day, Chess Mentor was one of the best systems available in its time but it’s time has passed and bringing it back as a online system though interesting, has no real value to most players, my opinion only, you will have to judge for yourself after forking out $150.00.

Some free chess advice, stay away from those forks!

Hmm, that's too expensive... Hey, this is the Internet! The land of the usually totally free! Or at least very cheap... AND it's the land of everchanging. That's why I don't know whether or not I'll have time and/or interest to play around with this mentor in, say, 6 months from now. Paying $150 is therefore a risk, that I won't get my money's worth. The rebate from paying for a year instead of a month should be greater, so the price of that should perhaps half of what it's now, i.e. 5xthe price of ONE month. And even though Chess Mentor was working really well most of the time, I think $15/month is also too much, cuz I don't think I will have time to use it enough in one month to make it worth it. And paying by the hour, for $5?

In short, I'd use this if it was cheaper!

Did the number of demo's available recently decrease? They dissapeared for me and a friend at the same time, even though I think we tried a different number of demos...

In the land of the 'totally free', business does not prosper and sites like this will bomb without revenue.

But you do have a point.  You are not saying that Chess Mentor is worthless, but in your mind it is too expensive.  You seem a little upset that the demo set has been restricted.  Did you like it whilst you could use it though?

I for one would be much happier paying for a chunk of time that I could use whenever I was able, as opposed to a 'pay now, use in 24 hours' type of thing

It is too expensive for a yearly use.

i totally agree! i think that having thousands of hours worth of training with grandmasters and internationally acclaimed chess authors should be free! and i think grandmaster should give FREE lessons too!

oh wait. $150 per year is about 1-2 hours of private coaching from an IM or Grandmaster. i guess getting thousands of hours for the price of 2 hours is... well, you do the math. :)

would you rather pay $100 one time and then have to pay $25 for every new course that comes out? we are releasing 1-2 new courses per month...

Got to say that Erik and his site offers Chessmentor lessons, which are written by a collection of Grandmasters, International Masters, who offer individual lessons for around 80 dollars an hour, is TOTALLY overcharging the rest of us for providing thousands of hours of lessons for only $150 dollars a year.  Wait a minute, isn't that only two lessons from a GM!  And Erik is providing us users with thousands of lessons for the same price.  Well, gee whiz, he must be overpricing us!

Chessmentor is an amazing product that is well worth the $150 a year, or $15 a month.

Yep, but right now I don't have any money, so I couldn't buy it anyway.

Too expensive? Yes

Does it matter? No

Why? Because of freedom of choice. No one is forcing it down your throat. Don't like it? go buy chessmaster. Chessmaster too expensive? Go borrow books from your library. Library too far? Search on the internet. Don't have internet? Then how are you reading this?

So, your gripe isn't just about chess mentor then?  You have no money, so paying for anything is an issue

TBOL3

As I have stated, the price is fine, but becouse the rest of the site is free.

But, yes, I´m broke, so I couldn´t pay for it anyway.

You do know you can buy the chess mentor on a cd ? I don't know the price but maybe that's better for you

billybob

If you don’t have any money the library is your best bet and of course the internet as I said has thousands of resources.

Free games, free lessons, free puzzles etc. If you have a little money and you want GM, IM analysis you can try http://www.chesspublishing.com/content/ this site might be in your budget range.

Most of the stuff is current and up-to-date.
