Excellent suggestion .. perhaps they could score points for identifiying an alternate move. Or do you need to know the name and complete variation?
Alternate correct moves
Good idea! I had a similar one based on the idea that once you've completed a puzzle you can re-examine it without it affecting your grade. This could be done on a move by move basis.
Yes, it could be improved by not depending on the Chess Mentor program for the answers to life lol. I had the same issue and decided I was just better than it and some of the "lessons" might interfere with my style

Good advice. It's definately for the best that I didn't buy any lessons but just took the free ones.
I've had a bit of trouble with Chess mentor. What has happened is that I have chosen a move and got told it is the "Alternate correct move" and been asked to try again. But then I have to find another move and all the moves I've looked at seem worse than the one I first chose. I lost a lot of the score like this, and it seems wrong because my first choice was fine.
Also the system does not have enough leniency. One example is
thiswhere I wanted to play 2...g6, entering lines similar to the Grunfeld defence. I never ever consider the mentor's "solution" 2...e6, perhaps because I have an aversion to murdering my Queen's Bishop.
Could this be improved
