The Jaques of London vintage Chess Set has Arrived from Across the Pond.

The vintage Jaques of London chess set has arrived today. The chess set was purchased for $50 dollars on June 3rd, 2024.

The vintage Jaques of London chess set arrived undamaged and in perfect condition. And as was shown in the photos on Etsy.

The Jaques of London vintage chess set is in almost mint condition for the resale shop in the UK.

The chess set is beautiful. But does need some upgrades to make this $50 vintage chess set come up to modern standards.

As shown in the photo the finishing is substandard, and the pieces lack felt. Weighting is not required on a chess set this small.

So for a couple of dollars. I will refinish this vintage chess set. And add felt to this beautiful vintage chess set from Jaques of London. And it will make a great addition to my playing and study chess sets.

DKW, that is a nice old set, love the graphics they used on the label of rhe box.

Just out of curiosity, what is the set that is on the shelf behind the table in the background? Can you show some up close photos of that set? The one behind the chess clock...

Thanks for sharing-

@DKW What a great buy and a great-looking set.

When a great reproduction is perfect for every day chess play, tournament chess play, and study. Unless you are you who only say they buy 100 year old junk chess sets. That you over paid for, and nobody wants for everyday chess play. So you can say Antique.....cry

So they are ebonized?

DesperateKingWalk

I have no clue. It was only sold as a unused JOL vintage chess set.

So I bought it as a meme chess set. Proving anyone can own a JOL chess set..

And it does not make it a good chess set...grin

That is why I Unboxed it in the photos. With a great vintage JOL reproduction. But you guys were too dim to notice the irony. tongue

hermanjohnell

Hmmm... I may be dim but I thought that there was a vast difference between ebony and stained/ebonized pieces but if not even you can spot any difference I guess that ebonized is just as good. Thank you for clearing that up!

DesperateKingWalk

You have confirmed it..... dim!

Yes they are both new and both black in color....cry

Now you are starting to get a clue....cry Frankenstein lovers...

The true vintage JOL is junk, of low quality. Names and age do not mean a great chess set.

The vintage reproduction is a great chess set reproduction of the 1972 Fischer Spassky chess set in ebony.
