I agree, Mandeep never disappoint me, he and his staff are excellent master carvers. The level of his carving and finish easily match those sets that costs hundreds of dollars more from other sellers. He's my favorite seller for sure.
I have the SC Morphy Cooke set in distressed which i am fairly pleased with. It's not up to NOJ standards of finishing but it is significantly cheaper (and available!)

Yes please mister Martin! You can open a thread dedicated to SC Morphy Cooke, I'm always interested in other sets (and I think I can speak for others in this )and own pictures are most of the time better than on the website.

That's a board from local craiglist, judging from the 'odd' size and patina I'm guessing from the first half of 20th century.
That's interesting history of this set, do you perhaps know what was the original name when it was sold by Official Staunton?
I wish they had more boards like that on this side of the pond. It is slim pickings over here.
haha you're still on the wrong side of the pond, you need to be on the pond side of UK, they have the best old English style boards there. I wish I was on that side 
I received my Walter Grimshaw set in natural boxwood & ebony from Staunton Castle today. I love it for all the reasons mentioned above:
Pros:
1. Gorgeous finish of all pieces. The dark chocolate Ebony pieces are especially nice. I have to remind myself not to eat them.
2. Knight design is one of the nicest I have seen. It has just the right amount of sculpted detail. Not overly simplified or abstract like some Soviet sets, and not over-worked, excessively ornate & gaudy like some recent "luxury" Indian sets.
3. Very pleasantly weighted.
4. 3.5 inch (~ 90mm) with on a 2 inch (~ 52mm) square board is the perfect for home use.
Cons:
OK, only one complaint really: The queen is a bit too small. It's about the same size as the bishop. Doesn't seem in keeping with the usual Staunton proportions. I must admit I have lost it among the minor pieces once or twice. @TheOneCalledMichael how do you feel about the size of the queen?

I fully subscribe to your review - I have the "Emil Kemacny" reproduction set by Staunton Castle and am very delighted. Apart from its classical elegance, all the pieces are very meticulously crafted (probably thanks to the fact that Mandeep Singh´s manufacture consists of just around 15 craftsmen who really know what they do). What I also appreciate about these chessmen is that they are surprisingly heavily weighted, despite of their elegance (take the Kings´ anf Queens´ slim stems!). Your photos are very illustrative, although I am sure that they do not even do full justice to the beauty of these pieces. All in all, a very beautiful set you have got there, it will very likely provide you with joyful playing for the rest of your life.
