My dad's ivory chess set

Hi,

I was wanting to know a little more about my dad's chess set that he gave me.  I remember it from the 70s when I was younger.  His mom, my grandma, bought it on a trip to Asia with my aunt in the mid 1960s.

That's all he and I know.  I do not know if it was China, South Korea, Japan or somewhere else.

My suspicion is it is Chinese because of the dragonesque carvings in the wooden chessboard.

I was hoping someone could confirm or guide me to where its origin is.

Thanks.

And the king's hat looks like the hat of an ancient Chinese official.

Hi @myext12. It resembles a wooden set that in have that I believe (and I may be wrong) was originally from Taiwan. See this thread here: Taiwanese Gem

In the picture you took, I saw that this knight (dragon) had a fish tail, so I was sure that this dragon was a special dragon. In Chinese mythology, the dragon had children with nine different creatures, this is the child of the dragon and the fish, called "螭吻", it often appears on the roof, Chinese tradition holds that it can be placed here to avoid fire
