Demonstration chess set made entirely of wood.

Sort:
ChessboArt

I have been designing and making demonstration chess sets for over a year. Not exactly for schools, more for living rooms.

I have placed really good and professional photos on the website, I will also be happy to answer any questions. Web: www.ChessboArt.com

Because I have a passion for chess and wood... and less for marketing and sales. I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks, I hope the link problem has been fixed.

I'm glad you like my chess. There's so much work with them that at least such opinions give us strength!

Michal, I have some questions and ideas, although bear in mind I’m in North America and this may have a different perspective:

1. Would you consider using Maple wood for the board? It has less grain, which is preferable for contrast.

2. Can the pieces be made with a black finish on the dark colors? That heightens contrast on a classic wood board.

I’m considering being a customer, likely next year, but for me 1 and 2 would be critical.

I think it's a matter of wood availability. It should work, but I need to check what the figures will look like. The chessboard should be easier.

I did tests with different types of wood. Like that:

Black finish, it is probably possible to make it with epoxy resin.

Fortunately, everyone likes something different. You can find my contact details on the website.

I checked the possibilities.
Maple wood is not very available here. However, it is a very polar and light birch.
I'll probably do some tests soon.

I have already made wooden figures using very light colors: Sambas.

Best,

I love the pieces and design. The easel too. Great work.

What is your process for making the pieces? Something like that but thicker would even make a nice den or shelf ornament.

By the way, IM Biro and you are the only titled players I know of that make chess pieces happy.png

Thanks for your opinion, remember that I'm open to new ideas happy.png

The process is quite long. In short, first there are saws, then milling machines (both sides of the chessboard and chess pieces), then gluing, then grinding, and finally laser marking.

Sometimes it depends on the type of wood. Even the same species looks different in different parts (sapwood and heartwood, rings, etc.)

I have 8 different types of grinders in my workshop.

- wide belt sander
- manual belt grinder
- oscillating sander
- eccentric sander
- table disc grinder
- table belt grinder
- company secret :D
- my secret :D
That's dozens of chisels and hand tools.
One day I will record a video for my YouTube :D

Thank you for sharing the info about IM Sandor Biro thumbup. These chess are so classic and nice happy.png

I think this is magnificent - the board, the pieces, the easel / the whole package. Pure class. Well done - I envy those lucky enough to own one. 👍👍👍
