I can't give you any recommendations on which board to get however, I do have a ChessUp, with accessories, that I'm looking to sell.

No issues with it at all, I just am too busy with work, study, and a toddler, to be able to dedicate enough time to using it. Send me a PM if you're interested at all.

The ChessUp looks like the best option to me, it's a "STEM platform" and supports playing online against both humans and bots (over Chess dotcom and Lichess), the game analysis can be made offline (via the app) and the position setup be got through a FEN string. Soon will be available lessons on openings repertoire, endgames, tactics and stuff.

I own a chessup and a chessnout go.

Personally, I prefer chessup as the Led lights up better. They also have installed chess.com recently. However, I cannot use lichess on chessnut go app, and it is frustrating me.

However, if you want to bring these electronic boards outside, I would suggest you buy chessnut go.

Thank you for reading this!

Is chessup any good for travelling?

@ ILikePi317 : I own them both (and several others). For travelling I prefer the chessnut go. It depends on the weight and the magnetic function. But for playing at home you will enjoy the chessup2!

Maybe you can not play lichess via older "Chessnut" app but with "Go", on their newer app it works efficiently and normally.

I own the chessnut air and since yesterday the ChessUp 2. These are my first impressions comparing them.

- I prefer the larger size of the ChessUp 2, the chessnut air is just too fiddly for me.

- I prefer the wooden look of the chessnut air although the contrast between the pieces and the board could have been better.

- The plastic pieces of the ChessUp 2 have some weight to them, even the pawns. Really a pleasant surprise they play great. The pieces of the chessnut air on the other hand feel like,... well,... air.

- Moves made by your opponent are communicated,

Chessnut Air: with dots in the corner that light up from under the wooden squares.

Chessup 2: with the whole squares light up blue and sometimes other colours (red for check for instance)

I much prefer the ChessUp 2 solution which is way clearer.

- Chessnut Air works with Chess.com and Lichess and a multitude of chess apps but you have to use your phone all the time and for me integration with chess.com is not seamless, mind you, I haven't used my chessnut air for some time so this might be improved by now.

- ChessUp 2 for now only works with chess.com with Lichess support promised in the near future. Also support for Checkers is promised in the near future (I already have the pieces for it) but so far there is no integration with other apps. Your phone is only needed for first setup after that you use the build in touchscreen to navigate and integration is seamless with chess.com although not all options are available for now. For example, not all timecontrols are supported . I'm especially missing a 5 and 10 minutes + increment timecontrol, the sweetspot for eboards like this in my opinion. Support for more timecontrols is announced for the future so I keep my hopes up. Also the ChessUp 2 is just released and the team behind it are still squasing bugs that come up. For example some people with Mesh WiFi report frequent disconnects.

At the moment of writing chessnut air has more options and support for much more apps but the things that work with ChessUp 2 work better and more intuitive.

- The carrying bag of the ChessUp 2 is of much higher quality than the one for the chessnut air. They are both approximately the same size.

It looks like the ChessUp 2 is going to be the weapon of choice for me in the future. Especially if some unfulfilled promises (Lichess support, more timecontrols) are resolved. I'm confident because the team behind the ChessUp 2 seem very responsive to feedback.

Traveling can be done in very different ways but for me the ChessUp would be to big.
