Chess Up 2 board I coming out!

Sort:
Mando

The Chessup 2 board is coming out and it is better than ever before! It has a touchscreen and everything! Pre order and watch the 2 promotional videos at chessup2.com! If you pre order now, you get $120 off. It was originally $300, but now you can get it for $180! It doesn’t deliver until November, but it’s worth the wait!

I don't see it for $180.

JBabkes

I honestly thought it was an April Fool joke.

I see it for $100 off. It does look great, and I understand you do not have to use your smartphone. On my wish list would be the same set only in regulation tournament-size pieces and board. But overall this looks great for around the $200 range. I am going to order it with the storage and carry bags so I can take it on a trip.

As did I Mike, the whole kit.
My only concern is how small the screen is, hoping the navigation easy at that size. These old eyes already have trouble reading small print.
TundraMike

1 1/2" squares...2" would have been nicer

2 5/8" K........3 5/8" would be great

But other than that this might be the best one on the market when it comes out. I hope the pieces feel substantial.

I think the chessup 2 is way too expensive for a chess board. If you’re that desperate to play chess OTB, join a tournament.

This should scratch the itch to play online tournaments on chess.com AND OTB without getting your account frozen by chess.com for using an eboard Win-win.

TundraMike

It's not just a chessboard. far from it.

It is just a chessboard, just 5x more expensive

I should check the other threads, but I figured to ask now, “Can the pieces for the ChessUp be easily replaced, or will they require proprietary piece for recognition!”

I think you can buy replacement pieces online

I found this on the chessup 2 website under FAQ’s

Thanks, but I meant if the chess pieces could be changed to other styles of chess pieces to suit the player more other than the stock plastic pieces. I did a quick search in the forums but did not find this information.

@chessroboto I had the same question with their original board and messaged them directly. The answer I got was a little evasive, but in short, due to their 'touchsense' technology, I would only be able to use their oem pieces. I got the feeling that they wanted to keep everything proprietary. You'll probably need to contact them directly and maybe even push for a solution before it gets released.

Thanks. I am honestly surprised that the resident crack team of chess.com has not looked into this… yet.

I will wait for when it comes out but that tiny screen has a long way to go to compete with the Evo.

If the pieces are the same as the one they will feel a little light. They will not be selling any sensors or any way to make your own (confirmed with BryghtLabs on Discord).

If you truly think it is "just a chessboard" you are either ill-informed of what it is and does or you are just trolling. The e-boards allow for much more than just "playing a game or two". Most have other features to help you learn to play better, something most of us can use help with.

Your suggestion of

If you’re that desperate to play chess OTB, join a tournament.

is not always reasonable. I travel for work. Quite a bit. I have no chess club close by, most tournaments are on the weekends so I would need to travel to them, then Fri-Sun tournament play, etc, and there goes my ability to do adult things like take care of my home, my vehicles, and spend time with my family.

And e-board allows me to have close to an OTB experience online. I regularly play in tournaments online here and there using one of my e-boards. Some of my last few games I have had were 60 move marathons and I looked at the screen maybe twice per game.

Thanks for your input though.

The literal touch-sensitive feature tells me the pieces and the board are configured uniquely compared to other eboards in the market.

I understand your problem, but for most people the chessup 2 is too expensive. It costs $450-$600, which I think is way too much for a chessboard. Even though it give chess.com games a OTB feel, I think it is overpriced. Also, the point of playing OTB is to socialise with another person, but the chessup 2 takes all the fun out of playing OTB. Anyway, these are just my thoughts and other people may have different opinions.
