The name Woden Valley is taken from the name of a nearby homestead owned by Dr James Murray who named the homestead in October 1837 after the Old English god of wisdom, Woden.

Woden valley chess club is open to Chess enthusiasts as well as established players and people of any age group or country who admire the inherent wisdom and life-long learning in the game of Chess.
