Isle of Lewis
The Isle of Lewis is one of the remotest islands of Europe. It has a long history revolving mostly around Gaelic and Viking dominance. It is here that several sets of chess pieces were found in 1831 - the Lewis Chessmen. The oldest and most impressive monument dates from well before Celtic times, however: The Standing Stones of Callanish, a stone circle to rival famous places like Stonehenge. We are a group of people who honour the remote beauty of this wonderful place and its rich cultural history.
