Hello everyone, today I will be discussing a little a basic opening and other stuff, I will try to write articles every week.

This is called the kings pawn for short or King's pawn opening. Black plays the same move as White but with purpose as black wants to develop his f8-bishop and this is the best way to do so, all the openings that I will discuss today arise from the kings pawn.

Bobby Fischer

How does one even start to do justice to Robert James “Bobby” Fischer, 11th world champion, in such a small space? There are many, many great chess players, but Fischer is at least in contention to be considered the greatest player to have ever lived. Additionally, he invented the now standard timing system, created one of the most popular sub-variants of the game still played and wrote one of the most highly regarded books on the game as well! Fischer’s name is inseparable from the game of chess, and it likely always will be.

Born in Illinois, he picked up the game at six and was largely self taught for several years. At 13 he played the “game of the century” against international master Donald Byrne. As he got stronger, he became well known as a writer and analyst too (the zenith of his achievements as a writer probably being the book My 60 Memorable Games, considered an all time classic in chess canon). Fischer’s ability and contributions to the game were legendary even among the pool of all time greats.

Playing Style
While known for many spectacular sacrifices, this was not all Fischer’s game consisted of. He has been noted as an excellent player to learn from due to his directness and highly principled play. Grandmasters like Tal could make chess seem like a dark, twisting labyrinth. Fischer instead could make it look easy. However behind this casual ease and directness was a depth of understanding rarely seen even at the highest level. This is "The Game of the Century"
