ONE WORLD League is happy to announce the third season of its Classic Championship tournaments.

Classic OPEN tournaments will be played on 7-8 boards, Classic U1700 tournaments on 6-7 boards and Classic U1300 tournaments on 5-6 boards, all starting on March 3. Rounds will start on the first Sunday in each month.

Clubs are invited to register several teams. If they register a second (third ...) team within the same rating range, they need to make sure, that a player doesn’t play twice in the same round* and that their teams have a descending average rating**.

Already participating clubs are invited to confirm their teams and to add (as described for new clubs) additional teams. New clubs are asked to mention the number of their teams for each of the rating ranges and to provide a link to a current (ongoing) match showing 12 players for each OPEN team (10 for U1700 and 8 for U1300). They will be placed by the shown strength in these links.

Ten teams will play in the Classic Champions 2024. Three teams will relegate to the Classic OPEN A in 2025. Next ten teams will play in the Classic OPEN A 2024: Three teams will promote and four will relegate.

Following divisions will have subdivisions with up to ten teams: Two clubs will promote, (up to) four clubs will relegate. U1700 and U1300 tournaments will be managed similar.

Sonneborn-Berger will be first tiebreaker, the number of board points will be second tiebreaker. If needed to determine promotion or relegation, provisional standings by the end of registrations will be used.

Registrations will end on February 10: Pairings for round 1 will be posted on February 16.

Provisional placements (based on results in season 2023) are shown in comment #2. New teams will be provisionally added after evaluation of their strength and are likely to change divisions during registrations (e.g. depending on number and size of sub-divisions and newly registering teams).

* In the event, that this will occur, the games of those players will be counted as lost for the lower placed team: In case of repetition (or abuse) clubs risk to see all their teams disqualified.

** Matches of teams, which don’t have a lower average rating as higher placed teams from the same club, will be forfeited: In case of repetition clubs risk to see all their teams disqualified.
