ABOUT ME

My name is Krisztian Szabo from Hungary and I am a professional chess coach.

I started playing chess when I was 5 years old and I haven't stopped since.

Although I achieved high positions as a player, I discovered that my greatest passion is teaching and coaching. I absolutely love it and can do it all day!

I love coaching and have developed and fine tune my method since 2012, working with many student levels, from beginners that enjoy chess, to top level professionals.

PLAYING EXPERIENCE

I was multiple times Hungarian Champion, European Youth Champion, Silver Medalist at the World Youth Championship, and former member of the adult national team.

However, for me, the most important achievement was winning the title of Grandmaster.

COACHING EXPERIENCE

Since 2012 I have been working with chess talents from Hungary and abroad. My best-known student is Aryan Chopra from India, who became a GM at the age of 14.

I have been a training partner for many players, including both Judit Polgar and Peter Leko, the most successful Hungarian chess players of the past decades.

I have experience as a Second for top players above 2600, including with the Candidates Tournament and more recently, with the FIDE World Cup.

I have Chess Academies in Hungary, USA (California), Singapore, and UAE (Dubai), besides being a member of other known online chess academies.

I am also the coach of Judit Polgar Chess Foundation's Mentoring Program.

BEST COACHING SKILL

I've become an expert on openings over the years, with articles written for many places, including several ChessBase Magazine.

I can also say that I strive for the same goals as each of my students, so when they are happy, I am happy too. I work very hard to ensure that they are always successful and happy with chess!

COACHING METHODOLOGY

My method is based on building a very good opening repertoire and working very well with endings.

For middlegame study, I provide model games with the same openings we study.

I also help my players work on calculation, as by my experience, you can't improve on that alone.

I provide materials about these areas, so students can also work well by themselves. The more hours they study well alone, the faster they improve with my orientation.

Depending on the student level and needs, I can also play practice games with them, so we can improve some practical issues they may be facing, or just prepare for a tournament opponent.

I don't have minimum Elo requirements, as I love to help everyone who enjoys chess.

I believe that ensuring players enjoy the chess journey is the most important task for a coach and I work very hard so they can feel that.
