Do You Want to Win? Sacrifice Your Queen on c4!
Hi!
Creative geniuses like Geller and Bronstein intersect today in this theme....sacrifice your Queen on c4!
Bronstein's game has an interesting story. In the 1960 Mar del Plata Tournament in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Bronstein was due to play Bernardo Wexler, one of the local Masters. In a friendly conversation before the game with the Soviet Ambassador to Argentina, N. Alexeev, Bronstein promised that he would try to win the game with a Queen sacrifice...... and he did!
Many years later, when they met in Moscow, Alexeev would always ask, "David, just how did that miracle happen?" Bronstein mentions that Alexeev was a lover of the game of chess.
One interesting note is that Bronstein did not usually play this opening!
Now, Geller's game is a prime example why he is considered the greatest virtuoso in the King's Indian Defense. A study of Geller's games is paramount to anyone who wishes to play this opening well.
So there you have it; a creative intersection between these two chess giants, from whom we all learn.....
Peace!
