If you know nothing about Coffee Zee Chess, I suggest that you check out my original blog post here: https://www.chess.com/blog/ThePawnSlayer/the-best-place-in-london-to-play-chess

We meet every Friday from 6-9pm at Coffee Zee just off Holloway Road. We normally run casual chess sessions but every so often I will run a casual tournament for some of our seasoned experts!

I have now run a FREE casual chess tournaments at Coffee Zee for nearly a year now. However, despite it being a popular tournament, I have never had an instance where it has been too full that we are unable to fit everyone. Last Friday was an exception... The warning signs were there when at 6:00pm (30 minutes before the tournament) the shop was full of aspiring chess players all preparing to fight for our coveted chess prize... ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Once again, this tournament was full of exceptions... For the first time EVER, we had a cash donation prize of £100. This made this tournament much more high stakes than normal.

It was once again a very competitive tournament with lots of strong players in attendance.

Round 5

Round 7

Well done to Nigel for his excellent performance in the competition winning an impressive 7/7 games and the 1st place prize (which he generously donated back to the event for the next tournament!).

The final standings for the top 7 players of the event. An excellent result for Nigel!

Thanks for reading and looking forward to the next one!
