FM Jaiswal, Joshi, Silwal & Shrestha Shine Bright in Nepal National B
National B Chess Championship which was held from 3rd February to 8th February in Agriculture Development Bank Central Training Institute Thimi Bhaktapur. It acted as the Selection Process of 8 players in the Open Section and 9 players in the Women's Section. The Open Section had 34 players and 13 players in Women's Section.
The total number of rated female players in Nepal is 65 which is a major concern. 32 of them are active and the average rating of active players is 1279.78 and of all players is 1320. 41 at the start of February. If proper attention is not given this number might decrease.
With 9 spots up for grabs only 13 players participated where there was clause if a female player is above 1400 there will free lodging and no entry fee.
6 players received this benefit and 7 players had to pay the entry fee.
Former National Champion Sindira Joshi won the event with 5 points and Top 9 players qualified for the 7th National Women Chess Championship. One of the emerging talents and daughter of Former National Champion CM Keshav Shrestha (who also qualified for the Open National Chess Championship) Riya Shrestha displayed tremendous strength and quality of play to qualify.
Sindira Joshi won the last round avenging the draw in their last encounter in which she should have won but drew shattering her Olympiad qualification dreams.
Open Section
Purushottam Silwal one of the potential talents of Nepal who could fulfill the IM & GM dream played some interesting chess and showed great display of fighting chess.
He makes a guest appearance in this blog for the first time annotating his king hunt against CM Sajin Maharjan.
