World Chess Olympiad 2022!
Hi everyone! 🙂
Today is July 30 and I am writing this blog post from Chennai, India, where I am taking part in the World Chess Olympiad 2022, as part of the national team from Kyrgyzstan.
I was planning to publish this post on the very first day, but we arrived at the hotel very late and I had no internet connection on my laptop...
So I'll start from the beginning
Unfortunately, we arrived in Chennai later than we would like. July 27 was the official day of arrival. We arrived on July 28 late in the evening, and we did not manage to get to the opening ceremony. But the most important thing is that we arrived the day before the first round and we had time to rest after a long trip.
It was a little sad, but at the same time exciting, to follow all the actions on social media, where posts were published every minute about the arrival of new teams in Chennai. Finally, we were among them 😃.
In Delhi, we were honored to be met by the Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to India.
And in Chennai, a warm welcome from the organizers of the Olympiad awaited us. We were taken to the hotel, which is located in a very beautiful area on the very shore.
So, we had some rest and a fight the next day! 😃
P.S. Here are some statistics:
*** This is my 8th Olympiad. My first one was exactly 20 years ago!
2002 - Bled (Slovenia)
2006 - Turin (Italy)
2010 - Khanty-Mansiysk (Russia)
2012 - Istanbul (Turkey)
2014 - Tromso (Norway)
2016 - Baku (Azerbaijan)
2018 - Batumi (Georgia)
2022 - Chennai (India)!
*** For me, this will be the fourth trip to this country. My first visit was, if I'm not mistaken, back in 1997. I was only 11 years old, but I took part in the Asian Championship under 20 years old, which was held in Jaipur.
In 2003, the Asian Team Championship was held in Jodhpur, in which both men's and women's teams from Kyrgyzstan participated.
And my last visit was in 2014, when I took part in an open chess tournament - Kolkata Open 2014.
*** My results and rating performance at the previous Olympiads:
Bled 2002 - 7/12, Rp 2190
Turin 2006 - 5/10, Rp 1956
Khanty-Mansiysk 2010 - 3.5/11, Rp 1979
Istanbul 2012 - 3.5/10, Rp 1982
Tromso 2014 - 3,5/10, Rp 1982
Baku 2016 - 4.5/10, Rp 2015
Batumi 2018 - 5.5/10, Rp 2086

July 29, 2022 and the first day of the Olympiad. We seem to have missed literally one line in the standings to play with the strongest team in India in the first round. We end up playing with the South Sudan team.
Here I am sharing my game:
My game ended very quickly, and there was a great opportunity to spend my free time in the venue, meet old and new friends!
