New Feature: Top Chess Players

CHESScom
| 137 | Chess Players

This year, Chess.com has been working on new resources to help you connect with the chess community. Our latest project, Top Chess Players, is now in alpha mode, and you can start learning about your favorite players and giving us feedback.

Let's take a look at this feature:

Presentation

At the beginning of this year, we decided that it was time to finally start working a on a curated selection of top chess players from the past and present. We are excited about the opportunity to centralize historical chess information for our members. We not only wanted to provide information about the best active chess players, but also pay a tribute to the legends that have made history.

Current Status

In this alpha version, we have published 105 player profiles including Kasparov, Carlsen, Nakamura and all of your favorite chess players.

Top Chess Players

We have also added some historical figures like Zukertort, Pillsbury and other legends.

Historic Chess Players

To start, we have added the following information for each player:

  • Profile picture
  • Social profiles
  • Ratings
  • Small biography
  • Best game
  • Most-played openings
  • Latest games
Magnus Carlsen
Small teaser of Magnus Carlsen's profile.

And that is just the beginning!

Next Steps

Adding all this information has not been an easy undertaking. However, this is just the beginning! We are excited about the next developments and we have already defined a clear roadmap that will include the following features:

  • Live chess ratings page with daily updates, ranking changes and other information.
  • Expanded bios with information about every player's life both on and off the chessboard.
  • Videos of active chess players in tournaments.
  • More players for you to learn about.
  • Recent games for you to analyze and learn from. Chess.com will update these games regularly to ensure the latest games are accessible to you.
  • Translations will be added for our non-English audiences

Chess.com is committed to contributing to global chess knowledge, and that's why this project will be free for all members.

Feedback

This project is still in its alpha stage, which means that there is a lot of room for improvement. That is why your feedback is essential for us.
