How To Build Winning Chess Positions
In chess, beginners find that they don't know much about the openings, have a small amount of tactical understanding, and positional play is something from Mars. Fortunately, after a while, you will get a bit better. However, if you really want to improve you need to embrace certain concepts bit by bit and only move on when you feel you are ready to learn new concepts.
For those that want to reach the sky, I think that you should slowly master certain parts of the game, and YES, it will take time. In this article, I will give you four things to ponder:
- Chess is all about building something.
- Your pieces should work together.
- Quick moves are suicide.
- Learn to love dynamics!
So, let's jump into these four things right now!
Position 1
Learn to love Dynamics!
Is there anything else? Yes! Black jumps into dynamics!
Position 2
Your pieces should work together.
What move would you play as Black?
Position 3
Your pieces should work together.
Position 4
Your pieces should work together.
Position 5
Your pieces should work together.
Position 6
Your pieces should work together.
Black's plan is to firmly protect the f6-square. Black doesn't want to move to f6 and just wants to make sure that White's pieces can't crash onto/into that hole.
Position 7
Quick moves are suicide.
Position 7a
Position 7b
Position 8
Chess is all about building something.
Your pieces should work together.
Nobody is going to lose at this moment. However, is 11.dxe5 or 11.Rad1 the better move?
Position 9
Dynamics are part of the game.
Your pieces should work together.
White just played 13.Rd1 when Black has two choices: 13…Rd8 when Black sacrifices a pawn for dynamics, or 13…Bxf3 winning a pawn. Let’s look at both.
Dynamics
Greed
Position 10
Dynamics are part of the game.
Your pieces should work together.
Black is better, but why?
