2021 Junior Speed Chess Championship: All The Information
The 2021 Junior Speed Chess Championship presented by ChessKid was an online competition for top junior chess players. The event ran from June 7 through October 19 and featured a total prize fund of $35,000 for the competition.
For the second straight year, GM Nihal Sarin won the Junior Speed Chess Championship, defeating GM Raunak Sadhwani in the final. As a result Nihal will participate in the 2021 Speed Chess Championship Main Event beginning in November.

Prizes
The event had a total prize fund of $35,000, distributed as follows:
Qualifiers: $10,000 prize pool
- 1st: $1,000 (and qualification for the main event)
- 2nd: $500
- 3rd-4th: $300
- 5th-8th: $100
Main Event: $25,000 prize pool
In each match of the main event, half the corresponding prize pool for each round will go to the winner, while the other half will be divided between the two players based on their winning percentages in that round.
- Round 1: $1,000 per match, totaling $8,000
- Round 2: $1,500 per match, totaling $6,000
- Round 3: $3,000 per match, totaling $6,000
- Round 4: $5,000 for the match. The winner also qualifies for the 2021 Speed Chess Championship.
Format
Qualifier
- Knockout bracket consisting of eight players.
- Each match will feature 14 games, two of which in the 5|1 time control, four in the 3|1, and eight in the 1|1.
- In the event of a tie after the first 14 games of the quarterfinals and semifinals, players will keep playing 1|1 games until a decisive result occurs. The colors will alternate from the last game played.
- In the event of a tie after the first 14 games of the finals, players will compete in a tiebreak of four additional 1|1 games played as a mini-match.
- If the final match is still tied after the tiebreak above, players will proceed to play one armageddon game: White will have 5 minutes on the clock and Black will have 4, with no increment, and Black will have draw odds. The player with the highest Chess.com blitz rating will choose their color.
Main Event
- Knockout bracket consisting of 16 players, with 12 invited players and four others from each knockout qualifier.
- Matches will consist of three different segments: 90 minutes in the 5|1 time control, 60 minutes in the 3|1 time control, and 30 minutes in the 1|1 time control.
- In the event of a tie, players will compete in a tiebreak of four additional 1|1 games played as a mini-match.
- If the final match is still tied after the tiebreak above, players will proceed to play one armageddon game: White will have 5 minutes on the clock and Black will have 4, with no increment, and Black will have draw odds. The player with the highest Chess.com blitz rating will choose their color.

GM Raunak Sadhwani won the Global Qualifier and moved on to the main event of the 2021 Junior Speed Chess Championship after defeating GM Paulius Pultinevicius.
